Screen printing
Screen printing is one of the most versatile print methods used today and this effective process can be used on a very broad range of mediums, making screening one of the most preferred print techniques. Aro Fablab now does screen printing to different items. The machine we use for doing this is called vinyl cutter. We design what we want to print in the computer using corel draw program then we send it to the Roland Vinyl cutter. The vinyl cutter is fed with rolls of vinyls and cutter cuts the vinyls in the styles desired by the designer. The vinyls have stickers on the backings.
ARO Fablab has so far since the machines arrived printed on clothes. We also intend to do screen printing on posters, signs, labels, stickers, electronics and other textiles. There's little that this process cannot print on, because size, thickness of medium, or shape will not inhibit the screening process.
This printing method is better because the ink can be more liberally applied to the medium. Also, colors can be mixed directly on the substrate giving unique effects and a broad range of dyes and different types of ink can be used because of the simple application process.
Through the printings we did, we have seen people who have shown interest that they want their T-shirts printed. We have got an order to print the ARO orphans T-shirts and other individuals also want us to print their personal items. We think that this will be a great income generating work to sustain our Fablab.
