Fablab now works in ARO

The ARO Fablab has since then started working well since the machines were brought.

Our Fablab is the first fab lab in Kenya followed by the Nairobi University Fablab. The Fablab is located in Majiwa, a rural village in Western Kenya. Our lab is a test case for technology-enabled rural business generation and it works purely on solar. We have since tested the machines and they work pretty well except for one inveneo which the screen burnt. Tom and Partick are fixing the Inveneo and we believe it will work well again.

ARO Fablab Kenya West plans to work with the local polytechnics and institutions, orphans, the Kenya Change Agents and any other people who will interested in working in the lab.

So far since the installation of the machines, we have received quite a number of people visiting the Fablab. Though we haven’t begun big projects yet, so many people around have shown interest in the lab.

Last week on  22nd May, we had a group of 5 people from Kisumu Polytechnic again visiting the Fablab. These included the assistant principle ( Mrs. Joyce Nyanjong), Head of electronic department (Mr. Kondiek, the Chairman of the Kisumu Polytechnic board of Directors Mr. Kapere and some other two guests from the polytechnic.

The group showed interest in the lab and promised that they will send their students down to the lab for practicals i.e electrical students who will want to do some practical work on their projects. They said most Kenyan students do theory in their courses and the Fablab will be a good place for them to do what they learn practically. The polytechnic will arrange with ARO so that a group of students come to stay at ARO. This is a very good starting point for the ARO Fablab.

The group did a test project on the laser cutter and did it perfectly. THEY MADE IT!!!!
